Exquisite performances from two all-time greats: Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren. They carry the whole film on their shoulders, and it’s mostly due to their extremely captivating displays that I genuinely enjoyed this movie. Unfortunately, its screenplay lacks believability and some creativity since the key components of the story are predictable from the get-go.

Great performances from both McKellan and Mirren which isn’t surprising, but the final act with the reveal of the twist might’ve been unpredictable, but I like my mystery-thrillers to throw in some clues leading up to it, which this one was out of left field. For the performances might be worth checking out, but the plot almost undid all that was working up until the reveal. **2.75/5**

A stylish Aussie revenge-comedy that is adapted from a novel of the same name. Just superbly built screenplay on a tragedy that occurred some time back, but the movie reveals it only in the third act. About a woman who arrives in a small town where she was born and slowly gains popularity among the young women who seeks her stunning costumes to impress their counterparts. The town divides over her return, but why all the hate is the mystery that the movie going to solve for us in its entire narration.

The location and the settings were fantastic and it brought a western feel because of the Australians hot and humid weather. Kate Winslate was very good, her role simply reminded me Juliette Binoche from ‘Chocolat’. I have heard people saying it was emotional, but I did not find it like that. Instead, I had fun watching it, not like I had the open laughs, but felt joy and satisfaction for the time I spent for it. My initial thought was it could be overrated, but after watching it proved I was wrong. This is one of the best Aussie movie I have seen in the recent years.

Utterly superb! I wasn’t expecting such greatness.

‘The Dressmaker’, to put it bluntly, is quality! It has a pulse and then some, I love the feel of the film throughout – with all its quirkiness, silliness and straight up brilliantness. It all starts off very strongly, though I did then feel a (very minor) plateau. However, to my surprise, it shoots straight back up as it culminates with a super ending.

Kate Winslet is top notch from beginning to end with an excellent performance, though isn’t alone as the support cast all give very good performances – from Judy Davis to Hugo Weaving. I also note Liam Hemsworth, Alison Whyte and, at a certain point, Geneviève Lemon.

What a great film, full of twists n turns and it has a fantastic score. Loved it!

> Combination of wrong path and untrustworthy troop.

This should have been the Holywood’s bad boys film. I mean the big cast names are expected like the earlier films of QT, or especially like ‘The Departed’. There were many who dropped out of it for various reasons prior to the production commence, although this cast did a great job. In my finding I blame for the screenplay. It was a good story, but the first half was not very interesting compared to the next half, which was so brilliant, especially towards the end, mind blowing.

It was a multi starrer film, only that’s much I know, but I kind lazy to count how many were there because I thought it was a modernised and an improvised cop version of the ‘Ten Little Indians’ theme. There’s no evidence to prove that, it is just my theory. But seeing all the deaths and the conclusion, I felt the inspiration to the writer might have been possible.

From the director of ‘Lawless’ who aimed for another success, but received backfire from critically and commercially. Mixed response from the audience though. Definitely it will find its own fans in the days and years to come. The ladies had scopeless roles, so they’re completely forgettable their existence the narration, except very often just appear to show the faces. But well made crucial parts, in all the action sequences which kind what back the films along with Casey and Harrelson’s parts.

Like there is a saying, ‘slow start, but ended strong’, this film belongs to the same category. If you hold your patience for nearly 2 hours long, in the end you might feel after all it was not a bad flick. So not recommended to everybody, at a same time not suggested to skip it without properly knowing about it. P.S, the closing credit song, the remix version of ‘Pigs’ by Cypress Hill was awesome considering the theme of the film, I mean the corrupted cops, but felt the words were strong.

An okay movie with some very impressive visual flourishes, but a narrative mess, and not up to par with Director Joh Hillcoat’s prior work.

_Final rating:★★½ – Had a lot that appealed to me, didn’t quite work as a whole._
