Based on Charles Dickens’ novel, The Personal History of David Copperfield is the first Armando Ianucci’s film I ever watched. I didn’t really know much about this movie besides its stellar cast. I’m not the biggest fan of biographical works. Usually, I find them too constricted to the genre’s formulas, and if I don’t think the protagonist’s life is remotely entertaining, then the whole film crumbles. Fortunately, it’s not the case of this Ianucci’s adaptation. It’s one of the most pleasant surprises of the year, I finished it with a massive smile on my face.

David Copperfield’s life is portrayed in such a captivating, entertaining, genuine, heartfelt manner, but always maintaining this sort of lightness. There’s always something positive coming out of even the worst of situations. Actually, I think that’s the best message transmitted to the viewer: it doesn’t matter how horrible your life might be at a particular moment, it will only get better if you don’t give up, and if you surround yourself with true friends and family. Throughout the runtime, David shares his life with different families and friends, working and living in the poorest and wealthiest places.

His lifestyle changes drastically after each new significant development in his journey to become a writer, and it’s such a joy to watch him grow up. From working like a slave in a factory and being homeless to living in a boathouse and eventually in a mansion like a true gentleman, David goes through all of the obstacles life throws at him, learning from them to become a better person. A really nice touch is the distinct names that people call him throughout his life, depending on where he lives/works and who’s he talking to: Davy, Doady, Daisy, Trotwood… These might be merely different nicknames for David, but they mean much more. They’re a tiny yet efficient detail that remarkably distinguishes his unique lifestyles.

Ianucci and Simon Blackwell do a terrific job with the screenplay, by offering Dev Patel an exceptional platform to shine. The whole cast delivers outstanding performances that elevate the movie in an invaluable way. Patel is an excellent protagonist, and I don’t want to diminish his extraordinary display, but he’s only as great as his counterparts. Tilda Swinton (Betsey Trotwood) and Hugh Laurie (Mr Dick) form a hilarious couple, deeply important to help David rise from the ground. Peter Capaldi brilliantly portrays Mr Micawber, a family man with immense debts, who teaches young David (impressively represented by Jairaj Varsani) how London works by escaping his creditors.

Darren Boyd and Gwendoline Christie use their physical attributes to interpret the evil Murdstone brothers, who employ extreme, violent measures to educate David. Everyone involved in bringing the Peggotty family to life is as essential as the family’s importance to the protagonist. Benedict Wong (Mr Wickfield) shows his funny side once again, as Morfydd Clark is charming enough as Dora Spenlow and Clara Copperfield. Aneurin Barnard (James Steerforth) becomes David’s best friend, but his final arc doesn’t quite fit the film, in my opinion, prolonging the latter for a few unnecessary extra minutes.

So, as you might have figured, every cast member has a vital role to play in some shape or form. All are incredibly fun to watch, making this two-hour flick flow tremendously well. Technically, the production and costume design are award-worthy. The XIX century streets, houses, and clothes are really immersive, creating a realistic environment, elevated even more by the subtle yet powerful score (Christopher Willis). Seamless editing (Mick Audsley, Peter Lambert) and impeccable cinematography (Zac Nicholson) also help the movie’s pacing and even contribute for a few transition jokes.

All in all, The Personal History of David Copperfield is one of the most entertaining biographical works I’ve ever seen, as well as one of the most pleasant surprises of 2020. It’s one of those films that leaves you with a huge smile, from ear to ear. As the viewer, watching David Copperfield’s journey to becoming a writer is so captivating and fun, not only due to the humorous screenplay, but mainly because it’s such an honest, emotional, genuine story. Only a few minutes in, and I already wanted him to succeed in life. My emotional attachment to the protagonist was so strong that I couldn’t help myself drop a couple of tears by the end. I don’t have enough words to describe how wonderful every cast member is and how important each role has in David’s life. Dev Patel is an impressive lead, but his performance is elevated by the work of his counterparts. It’s technically flawless, but the story and its characters make this movie an absolute delight to watch.

Definitely, one of the best films of the year, so don’t you dare miss it!

This has really been a banner year for the period film. We’ve had Gerwig’s spectacular ‘Little Women’, Autumn de Wilde’s wondrous adaptation of ‘Emma.’, and on television, the bombastic imagination of ‘The Great’. Armando Iannucci’s ‘The Personal History of David Copperfield’, even with its flaws, sits beautifully beside them. This film left me giddy with joy, my eyes filled with tears, leaping from my seat with every rapturous surprise and unexpected burst of imagination. It brims over with humanity, humour and heart, and reminds us of the importance of these things for a rich and satisfying life. This is an absolute gem of a film, and one of my favourite of this year so far.

I’m not Armando Iannucci’s biggest fan so saw this at the Opening Gala of the London Film Festival with some trepidation. Unfortunately, I wasn’t pleasantly surprised. Dev Patel does bring some charm to the proceedings, but the attempts at comedy in this retelling of Dickens’ classic just don’t work for me at all. Ben Whishaw and Tilda Swinton appear to be fish out of water and whilst it is good to see Hugh Laurie back on the big screen it all comes across as a bit of a hotch-potch of ideas and aspirations. The book’s original questioning of Victorian values around child exploitation and of more general social attitudes seem to have been largely sidelined, robbing the story of much of it’s heart and soul. It is also quite unnecessarily lengthy at just shy of two hours. As you’d expect, it is a good film to look at, featuring some very picturesque East Anglian villages that probably haven’t changed anything like as much as this story from the days of Charles Dickens himself.

Sabotage Online Subtitrat in Romana – [1080p]

Not expected this from the director. For a title called ‘Sabotage’ which had one of our times greatest action hero in it the story drags with lots of drama than stunts. Arnold Schwarzenegger is not young anymore and he’s not capable of heavy stunts, but still he handled well those crucial parts. No doubt he was good, and also the direction, but the story was not well written. Especially the twist was so pale and the supporting characters were hyped better than the Arnie’s, but failed to hold and deliver when the story needed them.

Due to create the suspense some of the assassins were kept undisplayed for the viewers and that is another let down. Because in the whole movie action sequences were the weakest except the opening scene and those murders were somehow produced expectancy. This movie was not bad, but an average. It can be watched once though it may not fulfill your thirst for fine enjoyment. You may like what I did not, so I can’t put it to discardable list.

I cannot help but wonder if this movie would have gotten better reviews if Schwarzenegger had not been cast in the lead role. I get the feeling that people had certain expectations due to the choice of actor. In any case, the ridiculously low one and two star ratings are rubbish. They are utterly undeserved as far as I am concerned.

Personally, I quite liked the movie. Sure it is not Oscar material and it will not go on any of my top ten lists but I found it rather enjoyable to watch.

Schwarzy is not young any more so you should not expect him to play roles as he did at the height of his career before he made the unfortunate decision to wade into the dirty waters of politics. Still he performed quite alright in the various action scenes in this movie. And there are a fair amount of action in the movie as well as a fair amount of blood substitute. It is not really an all out action movie though and the story that underpins the action have a certain amount of drama in it.

I would say that the actors in general are doing a god job of their roles. The drug enforcement team looks more like a biker gang than a police team but then, to work undercover in the world of the drug cartels you really have to be part crazy. There are no young sexy chicks in this movie, unless you count a few scenes in bars and strip clubs. Actually the two female lead characters can be said to be downright ugly which may be another reason why some people of the younger audience give the movie a low rating although that is of course pure speculation on my part 🙂 . In any case, I think the choice of female characters fits perfectly well with the rest of the movie (as well as Schwarzy’s age).

The story is a mix of the fairly classical one of revengeful drug cartels and incompetent FBI directors with a bit of a twist from the money heist and the disappearing money. The implementation might be a wee bit imperfect at times but to me it was a good enough story. I did like the ending with the classical shoot out in the bar although I also did consider taking a star off due to the tragic last few scenes. What can I say? I am a sucker for happy endings.
**A hopeless mess from start to finish, unfortunately.**

This is not a good film, not even to watch with your buddies while drinking beer (which I did). It has some promise in its premise, and at one point we actually wanted to know how the actual betrayal was done, but that feeling soon vanished.

I personally think that Arnold does a decent job with what he has to work with, the rest of the actors are pretty atrocious though. Sam Worthington is the best of the rest but that isn’t saying much. Pair this with some of the most clichéd, over-the-top, obnoxious personalities ever put on film and sprinkle some next level cringeworthy dialogue on top and you have a recipe for characters you will actively despise. We actually cheered when they got killed off.

The biggest flaw of the movie is the editing though. As I mentioned we really wanted to be invested in this movie but either the director or the editor was really hung-over – or possibly still drunk – when they cut this movie. Multiple scenes and situations made less than no sense, and the final nail in the coffin was the realization that the inciting moment, the very reason the entire movie exists, was so badly edited that none of us understood what actually had happened until it was explained by a character much later.

The final ten minutes of the movie made it painfully clear that it wouldn’t have mattered if we had understood it, or anything really, as the “twist” (I wish I could use even bigger quotation marks) is both underwhelming and as twisted as metal ruler. You get no explanation of how the betrayal is done, no explanation why the events that are portrayed in the movie ever take place, nor why the characters act the way they did.

Honestly though, it’s our own fault to expect any sort of arc or depth to characters that probably has fewer than two lines of description in the script. It made for some relatively entertaining moments though when all of a sudden characters acted even more erratic and confusing than usual. It became a game of sorts to try and figure out if this was because one or more scenes were cut or if the writer/director actually was that incompetent.

The one redeeming quality of this movie is that they took their blood and splatter of said blood seriously. There are a couple of almost intense moments solely due to some realistic gore. There isn’t enough to entice any fans of gore and splatter to watch this though.

Give this one a pass unless you’re really acing for some sub-par action with a mediocre performance from Arnold.

What was most annoying was that every guess I made in the film I was wrong, especially when some of my guesses would’ve made sense…
– The beginning of the film, there was a girl who recorded the whole massacre. I assumed she would be a witness who would be escorted to testify, which in turn would start off the whole action. Nah, instead they just skipped to the part where it was all exposed.
– When the SAS stormed in, Tom Wilkinson’s character was by the table peacefully, I would thought it meant he surrendered and was willing to turn himself in and make a plea deal. Instead, Andy Serkis’ character shot him dead.
– The secret messaging for Ruby Rose’s character made me believe Noel Clarke was the informant, only to see her shoot him dead, which dispelled my theory.
– At the end, I thought the protagonist would choose to let the baddie live, as killing her is what she would’ve wanted, only to surprisingly kill her gruesomly.

This was a huge disappointing mess.
Passable but very forgettable action-thriller. I liked the cast well enough but there’s really not a whole lot that stands out from the action/fight scenes to pretty one-dimensional characters. **2.75/5**
As far as action and entertainment movies go, this one was okay. Sure, there were some scenes that did not turn out the way you would have thought, or wanted, but if you were looking to be entertained with explosions and suspense, you would not be disappointed, I wasn’t.⭐⭐⭐⭐

**Sometimes the crime decides its own fate.**

I had no thought before the watch, but while watching it, I felt it was overrated. That’s for a moment, once I finished watching it, realised it’s a better film. I mean I changed my stance, after over and over thinking about the film. So its the patience you need, wait till the film to end to decide how much you liked it. It was too long, but every space was filled up with the best parts. It took time to understand the characters, and with multiple angle events in one woman’s life. Isabelle Huppert was amazing. Despite so many characters in the film, she ruled it. One of her best films I have seen.

The film focused on the boss of a video game designing firm. It opens with as she’s been sexually assaulted in her home by an intruder. Followed by one of her employees morphed her face to an animated character as a sexual explicit material for the game they are working in. So she begins her investigation to find both the culprit who might be the same person. This is where the suspense comes into play to develop interest in us. Besides, facing family troubles takes some extra development. Subsequently, all the mysteries will be solved and to know how it ends, you should watch it.

It is official French submission to the 89th American Academy Awards. But as per the latest news bulletin, this film is out of the Oscars race, despite made into the Golden Globes. From the director of the original ‘Total Recall’ and his first French film. Based on the book named ‘Oh…’. But I felt it was developed from a small part of ‘The Little Death’. Basically, there’s an understanding being it is the story of the adults, despite the sexual violences and that’s how this story was built. So you must compromise on a few things that is shown in it if you really want to enjoy it.

I did not like it all the sudden, though looking back all the film events and joining them together made me see the film was decent. Especially that final line said by a woman who was evacuating her house makes whole thing sense. Maybe that’s the real twist in the tale. Initially I did not think to write a review, but surely it deserved one from me, so I wrote this short and quick. This is the film for the grown ups, but not for all the grown ups. So I hope it will meet your expectation if you decide to try, but according to me definitely it is worth.

Ass-wiping-piece-of-crap-movie glamorizing rape, violence, mutilation, stalking… It is not doing any good for anybody! NO woman (with brains) would ever find this movie sexy! The first and the last 10 minutes was the only thing realistic in this movie…. YUCK! The director and the whole movie team should be ashamed to encourage violence against women! There are some sick twisted fucks out there, who is totally going to misunderstand this movie…
